Article PDF Official Gaceta Relevance 90
Law No. 547 establishes the 'right to be forgotten in oncology' in Panama. The objective is to ensure equality and prevent discrimination against people who have overcome cancer when contracting banking, credit, or insurance services. The law stipulates that after five years have passed since the end of treatment without a relapse, individuals are no longer required to disclose their oncological history. Furthermore, it renders void any clauses, stipulations, or more burdensome conditions (such as increased premiums or exclusions) applied to such individuals. The National Assembly (ASAMBLEA NACIONAL) amends Decree Law 9 of 1998, Law 42 of 2001, and Law 12 of 2012 to explicitly incorporate these protections into the legal framework of the financial and insurance systems.
