Choosing a country to move to is rarely easy. After an initial selection, several countries or regions often remain that could be suitable.
The decision matrix allows you to compare these countries or regions systematically. It builds on your previous considerations and helps you evaluate personal criteria consistently, assign weights to your priorities, and compare the different options in a clear and understandable way.
The matrix does not make the decision for you. However, it provides a structured basis for comparing the remaining alternatives transparently and interpreting the results more effectively.
How the Decision Matrix Works
- Enter the countries or regions that could potentially meet your needs.
- Determine which criteria are important for your personal situation.
- Assign weights to these criteria according to their personal importance.
- Evaluate each criterion for all selected countries or regions.
- Compare the overall results and analyze the differences.
How to Interpret the Results Correctly
Do not view the result only as a ranking. Even small changes in the assigned weights or ratings can affect the order. This is not a weakness of the matrix. Instead, it shows which criteria have the greatest influence on your decision and where trade-offs exist.
The most important result is therefore not necessarily the country ranked first. It is often more valuable that you have examined your personal requirements systematically and compared the different alternatives in a transparent and consistent way.

The workbook also includes an AI prompt with brief instructions. You can use it to research individual criteria with different AI systems and obtain an initial rating on a scale from 1 to 5. The results should then be reviewed and adjusted to reflect your personal circumstances.
